The three-year program aimed to scale up a librarian training model designed to help underserved students develop and sustain a habit of reading. The program supported the government’s efforts to increase the number of child-friendly libraries across the country. It was part of a long-standing partnership with Room to Read, whose early-grade literacy program was selected as a 2018 Goalkeepers Accelerator, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s multiyear campaign to accelerate progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Dubai Cares’ support also enabled Room to Read to establish “demonstration libraries” that the government planned to replicate in priority areas, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). The program established 660 libraries in 18 districts and to publish five new book titles in Vietnamese.
