Dubai Cares, in partnership with Educate!, launched a transformative program in Rwanda to address the urgent challenge of youth unemployment by reimagining secondary education. The initiative introduced an experiential, skills-based learning model that empowers both educators and students. It equips young people with essential hard skills such as business planning, budgeting, saving, and market research, while also developing soft skills like public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, and self-confidence. These competencies are not only sought after by employers but are also crucial for enabling youth to become self-reliant contributors to their communities’ development.
Aligned with Rwanda’s broader efforts to reform its education system, the program supported several strategic components to ensure sustainable impact. It included the training of entrepreneurship teachers in competency-based, student-centered pedagogy, enhancing the quality of classroom instruction. Additionally, the program collaborated closely with the Rwanda Education Board to advocate for the development of a new competency-based examination framework for the national A-Level entrepreneurship subject, ensuring that assessments reflect real-world skills.
