In light of the dire need to return children to education, Dubai Cares piloted an Accelerated Learning Program in Liberia to reduce the number of out-of-school children and support their reintegration into the formal education system. During the first year of the program, ‘catch-up’ classes were established, specially designed for children who had missed school due to the Ebola crisis and had not been out of school for a prolonged period of time. These classes lasted 4–5 months. In the second year, the regular accelerated program was implemented, targeting children who had been out of school for three years or more.
