Dubai Cares, in partnership with buildOn, supported the construction of schools in the Far Western Region of Nepal, home to the indigenous Tharu population, who continue to face the long-term impacts of ethnic conflict, forced slavery, and systemic marginalization. Illiteracy rates among rural Tharu communities remain significantly higher than the national average, with over 60% of the population living below the poverty line.

Through the Adopt a School initiative, schools were built in remote areas identified in collaboration with Nepal’s Ministry of Education, prioritizing communities with no existing infrastructure.
In addition, this program gives parents and community members an opportunity to contribute to the construction of the schools, along with capacity building catered towards teaching and community-based projects.
