Dubai Cares, in partnership with the Luminos Fund, implemented the Second Chance Accelerated Education Program to provide quality education access for children affected by crisis or poverty. This ten-month program enabled out-of-school children aged 9 to 14 to catch up on three years of schooling and transition into the public education system. The program expanded to four additional regions in Ethiopia: The Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNNPR), Amhara, Oromia, and Tigray.

Through this expansion, over 40,000 children were given a second chance to learn. The Ethiopian government also adopted the program by providing capacity-building, professional development, and technical support to national and regional officials and educators. In addition, a comprehensive Second Chance delivery toolkit and supporting resources were developed, while parents and communities were mobilized and engaged to actively participate in their children’s learning journey. The program strengthened local ownership and ensured a sustainable impact for vulnerable children across Ethiopia.
