In partnership with The END Fund, Dubai Cares joined a consortium of partners to implement a mass school-deworming program in Ethiopia. Together with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID), Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), Evidence Action, The END Fund, and other international donors, Dubai Cares supported treatment for 15.6 million school-age children to combat intestinal worms and neglected tropical diseases such as Schistosomiasis (snail fever), Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH), River Blindness (Onchocerciasis), Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), and Trachoma.
These diseases represent 90% of the neglected tropical disease burden in sub-Saharan Africa, and the program aimed to significantly reduce their impact on children’s health and education.
