Dubai Cares helped empower girls and young women aged 6 to 20 years in the Jangamo District of Mozambique to realize their rights to education and economic participation.
The program focused on improving girls’ retention rates in primary school by addressing physical barriers to education, enhancing the quality, relevance, and gender sensitivity of teaching, and transforming the school environment into one that was safe, supportive, and girl-friendly. It also aimed to support girls in transitioning from primary to secondary school by reducing both physical and financial obstacles, as well as challenges resulting from harmful gender norms. In addition, the program enabled girls who had discontinued or been excluded from education due to early marriage, pregnancy, or other barriers to reintegrate into the formal education system. It helped them develop personal, social, and financial assets that allowed them to realize their rights and improve living conditions for themselves and their children.
